The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. 

The course will teach you how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE): 

Assess for risk of suicide or harm. 
Listen nonjudgmentally. 
Give reassurance and information. 
Encourage appropriate professional help. 
Encourage self-help and other support strategies.


This is a hybrid course. 

Learners must complete a 2 hour online course before attending the in person seminar. 

Attendance for the FULL (6 hours) in person portion is required to earn your certification.  Certification for Youth Mental Health First Aid is valid for 3 years.

The in-person session will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 6pm-9pm & Wednesday, May 8th from 6pm-9pm. (Attendance at both sessions is required.)
